Astrolab Explorers is an online STEM program where students design rockets, satellites, habitats, and smart space systems using TinkerCAD. The course blends 3D modeling, circuit design, and beginner-friendly coding to teach young learners how real engineers build and operate technology in space. No prior experience required.
There is a total of 12 sessions in this program with each session of 1 hr duration.
What Students Will Learn
🚀 3D Design for Space Engineering
Students learn essential CAD skills as they design:
- Rockets with fins, windows, and launchpads
- Satellites with solar panels and antennas
- Space stations with labs, living quarters, and docking modules
They master shape manipulation, grouping, alignment, symmetry, modular design, and multi-part assemblies.
🔌 Circuits for Space Systems
- Learners explore real electronic concepts through space-themed simulations:
- LED circuits with switches and resistors
- Series vs. parallel circuits for launch countdowns
Light-sensitive night-lamp systems
- Motors and buzzers for life-support simulations
Students understand current flow, sensors, actuators, and circuit logic.
💻 Coding for Smart Space Missions
- Using block coding and simple Arduino logic, students:
- Program rocket signal lights
- Create IF/THEN logic for solar panel tracking
- Code loops, timing, and motor control for a Mars Rover
- Integrate design, circuits, and code into a complete space mission
They learn core programming concepts like conditions, loops, inputs/outputs, and automation.
